Thanks Giving - Road Trip to LA

My buddy Nico and I decided to go on a road trip down to LA over the Thanks Giving holidays. We took off Thursday morning driving down the Highway 1.
We were lucky that we had the most beautiful weather for a road trip.
With two stops it took us 9 hours to drive down. It was an awesome drive.

In LA we stayed at a friends place right next to Hollywood walk of fame.
On Friday we went to Disneyland LA. There were lot's of new rides I didn't know and it was great to finally go to the very first Disneyland since I've been only to the one in Tokyo a couple of times. And I was lucky enough to see ASIMO in action!

And what would be a LA visit without checking out the beach promenade.

Conclusion: It was an awesome trip and I had a great time in LA but I still prefere the Bay Area ^^v

Steampunk Myth & Legends CGChallenge

I recently entered the new challenge on cgsociety.

The Mission:
Depict your favourite mythical character or story, with a steampunk aesthetic.

Steampunk is the application of advanced steam age technology to a modern or science fiction setting.

This challenge asks you to render traditional myths and legends in the steampunk style using elements of gears, springs, brass and steam power. Re-imagine legendary characters from some of the world's most ancient stories, such as a steam-powered minotaur, or a Zeppelin-mounted Thor, hurling lightning bolts from the sky.

Since famous tales are allowed too I decided to turn the Cinderella tale in the Steampunk style. Visit my challenge thread here.
The challenge page with all my entries so far can be reached through this link.
The due date is February 3rd...and I'm still in the concept phase. Hope I'll be able to finish.

Had time for another iPhone sketch! ^^v

Forest Rabbit

Today I invited Steve Sprang (the creator of brushes for iPhone) for Lunch. We talked about ways to improve his software concerning workflow etc. The software is already awesome but if he includes what I requested it will blow away everything! ^^
So go Steve go!

Happy Halloween!

This was my very first pumpkin carving experience. I had a lot of fun creating this little fella.

Work in progress steps ^^

Also today I went with my colleagues to the Children Hospital do draw for the kids.
The Children were excited and they had lots of requests like: Batman, Spiderman, Hulk, Dora, Naruto etc. Thank god we printed out some cheat sheets. Otherwise I would have been in trouble ^^;
I really enjoyed spending time with the kids.

Seaport

Went out with some colleages from work to paint outside.
My first life painting on my iPhone....
I was surprised how bright the display is. You obviously can't paint in bright sunlight but if you go under a tree that's totally fine!

'Brushes' for iphone

A colleague from work showed me another painting tool for the iphone. It's called 'brushes' and for my taste it feels even better than painting with 'colors'. The undo function is faster and it supports variable zoom levels. I have the feeling that it's more stable than 'colors' too. 'colors' freezed a couple of times but I didn't have trouble with 'brushes' yet. You have to change the opacity of the brush manually. I guess it's a matter of taste. Both are totally worth the 5 bugs.
Here is a little test with 'brushes'.

A Rainy Sunny Day

My second acrylic. This time I was a bit more careful with the gradients. ^^

iphone with stylus

I recently bought colors from the AppStore for my iPhone. They ported the software from the NDS. It's pretty much the same application as on the ds which is amazing.
The Opacity can be controled by tilting your iPhone. It has an undo function (which takes forever but I guess they'll fix it in the next version).
Since it's hard to paint with your fingers I bought the Pogo Stylus. It's one of the more expensive models (around 20$) but after reading reviews I found out that the cheaper pens have annoying delays. The stylus arrived yesterday! It's amazing and the opacity control with the iphone tilting works perfectly!
The guys from colors did again a great job! Here is my first iphone colors attempt.

Glowing Rabbit

Yesterday I went to an art supply store and bought some acrylics. It's been a long time since I used traditional media and this was my first time with acrylics.
So I started a painting based on a speed paint I made a couple of weeks ago.
The question mark turned out to be a glowing rabbit ^^.

Smooth gradients seem to be quiet difficult with acrylics T.T
Anyways I had a lot of fun so be prepared to see more traditional work from me in the future ^^
